Reading is something Michael and I both love. We have books filling several bookshelves, 3 window sills, 2 wall-hanging shelves, and a growing number of available surfaces in the house.  It’s a personal love and a shared love.  We enjoy reading alone, and we really enjoy reading aloud together.  Reading has been a source of solace, imagination, growth, and challenge.  It’s also a source of spending time together. Books touch us in the moment as we read, but they also impact our thoughts and conversations throughout the day/week/months. I think this is what makes them so impacting, and why they become such a huge part of our lives and who we are.

My favorite books to read are those that have been personally recommended to me by those with whom  I share common loves and interests, and I always like to keep track of what I’ve been reading and loving and pass on the joy to others.

Mudhouse Sabbath
by: Lauren F. Winner

EXCELLENT BOOK!! (June 9, 2011)

I’m in the midst of reading this and it has not only impacted my spiritual ideas and understanding, but my practices as well.  Lauren Winner was raised in Orthodox Judaism but came to know Christ as her Savior during her college years.  She has an extremely insightful perspective on what the Christian Church can learn from its Jewish roots.  I highly recommend reading this book.

An old favorite!  (April, 2014)

This book has had a huge influence on my life.  My first time reading it was almost 15 years ago–the summer before I headed off to college.  I read it again in college, and in light of the great struggle and challenge this last year has been, Mike and I decided to read it together.  Mike, reading it for the first time; I for the third.  It was like fresh water to a tired and parched soul.  This book never looses its profound impact on me.  A very large part of who I am, what I believe, and how I view the Lord’s involvement and work in my life is due to this book. I have recommended and bought it for about 10 people so far in my life, and I anticipate that list growing over the years of my life.
